me and paul young on newsnight april 9 2010
I am following the Luton South election battle for the Observer and last week I was asked to appear on Newsnight when the programme came from Luton. One of the other people who also appeared in the discussion was Paul Young, arguably Luton's most famous son. It was kinda crazy to be sitting next to him, having grown up in the town and knowing of his music since 1982. I remember singing along to Love of the Common People as a twelve year old, so to be sitting with him on a panel was one of the mad moments that one has to cherish. When I knew I would be on with him I started thinking back on some of his most famous songs and realised that quite a few could be considered as mottos for the different political parties' strategies. You can watch it now, apologies for the slipped soundtrack.
