when i was about thirteen i saw a film called ‘yaarana’ starring Amitabh Bachchan and one of the songs in that film was called bhole o bhole. you can see it hear

i am not sure why but i became utterly obsessed with this song, it is just so soulful and pleading it touched me in a very deep way.  i developed a superstition about always making sure i sang the song every day, i think i kept it up for over a year. its easy to think about Bollywood films as all glitzy and camp and ridiculous but they are not all like that and even now i can think of very few pieces of music as potent and powerful and as capable of transporting me somewhere as songs like Bhole O Bhole.
