Its Saturday evening. This time next week I will somewhere be above the skies on my way to Pakistan. I am flying into Karachi and then travelling onto Islamabad and Lahore to make a documentary for Radio 4 on the life of Jinnah. It is, of course, an absolute privilege to have such an opportunity but I am slightly apprehensive about the whole trip. Firstly I am arriving into Karachi in the middle of the night, something like 4 in the morning, secondly Karachi seems to have a rather unsavoury reputation for random lawlessness and, as if that was not enough, it will be something like 45 degrees Centigrade! I’m sure that when I get there it will be a fascinating week but it does seem rather unreal at the moment; I am hoping there is internet access at the hotel so I can upload some photographs onto the site. I am also hoping not to get food poisoning.
